Rostec’s United Engine Corporation has started the factory test of a gas turbine power unit for ice-resistant floating gas production platforms. This is the first Russian marine power unit capable of phasing out foreign equipment in the offshore hydrocarbon production market segment.

GTA-8 8MW gas turbine unit is designed for GTES-32 gas turbine power plant on Gazprom ice-resistant floating platform at the Kamennomysskoe-Sea field. The power plant will completely provide the gas production facility with heat energy and electricity.

The power units are adapted to operation as part of the ice-resistant oil and gas platform at the Kamennomysskoe-Sea field and are under the technical surveillance procedure for assessment of conformity to the requirements of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping. GTA-8 units are furnished with GTD-8RM dual-fuel gas turbine engines (made by UEC-Saturn) which enable power plants to be operated on both gas and liquid fuels. According to the contract and requirements of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, all power units shall undergo factory check testing in all operation conditions, including emergency situations.

GTES-32 for the Kamennomysskoe-Sea field will include in total four GTA-8 units. The first of them is to be supplied to the customer this year and the complete power plant equipment package is to be delivered next year.
