MF Salyut personnel, United Engine Corporation, have developed a robotic laser station for manufacture of both commercial and advanced aircraft engines unparalleled in Russia. It enables welding and cutting operations, replaces three pieces of equipment at once and reduces labor intensity of engineering processes.

Thanks to a six-axis manipulator and two-axis positioner, the laser beam can reach the most hard-to-reach work zone which minimizes the tooling requirements. The equipment multitask capability is ensured by replaceable optical heads: wide beam focus provides metal welding and focused beam provides metal cutting.

“Aircraft engine is a complicated individual product for production of which unique equipment is often required. The UEC personnel have developed a laser system which is unparalleled in Russia and is perfectly suitable for manufacturing facility Salyut to enable solution of the existing problems. The system replaces three pieces of equipment at once, occupies five times less space and makes the logistic chain twice as short. Thus, labor intensity is reduced by 10%, manufacturing of commercial and advanced engines becomes quicker and more streamlined,” said Oleg Evtushenko, Rostec’s Executive Director.
