Rostec Held the First Corporate Chess Championship

The personnel from 18 Rostec companies took part in the first corporate chess championship commemorating the 15th anniversary of the State Corporation. The final competition took place at M.M.Botvinnik Chessplayer Center in Moscow. The winners got valuable prizes from Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec, and chess grandmasters Sergey Karjakin and Valentina Gunina.

The championship gathered almost 500 chess amateurs. Qualifying rounds were held in many Russian regions in practically all Rostec’s key companies such as UEC, UAC, Russian Helicopters, Rosoboronexport, Uralvagonzavod, KRET, Shvabe, Technodinamika, etc.

“We held dozens of various competitions annually – from athletics to boxing. This is integral to our social policy and corporate culture. Chess is certainly among the priority sports disciplines. It tempers your spirit, improves memory, teaches to think proactively. These are very important properties both for personnel and managers. In the early days of my professional career, I was passionate about chess and still love this game. However, this occurs rarely. I was watching several final games: the personnel taking part in the competition are much stronger players than me,” said Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation.

The final games held in Moscow using the Swiss system consisting of seven rounds gathered 36 strongest players – 18 players in men’s and women’s teams each. Roman Novoselov from VSMPO-AVISMA won the first prize in the men’s tournament and Elena Kuzmenko from KRET won the first prize in the women’s tournament.
