Rostec has Successfully Tested a Railway Monitoring System

Shvabe personnel have successfully tested a system prototype for monitoring extended objects, including railways. The new solution will allow to monitor soil movements, structural deformations, railway facility temperature variation in Russian regions with particular climatic conditions. The equipment will help prevent abnormal situations on high-speed and public railway lines.

Novosibirsk Instrument-Making Plant (NPZ), Shvabe holding, is currently focused on creation of a domestic analyzer – an key component of the monitoring system. The analyzer and fiber-optic sensors are installed under railway tracks and send a deformation or differential temperature signal. The system tracks the degree of changes and identifies the source of change.

The monitoring system with the domestic analyzer is to be first provided to the railway sections in the areas with unstable geological conditions. They include road sections on thawing ice beds, in permafrost regions and thermokarst subsidence areas. The extended object parameter monitoring system will allow to reduce the load on railway, motor way, bridge and tunnel monitoring services.
