RT-Business Development holding (included in Rostec State Corporation) and a consortium of Chinese investors have signed a memorandum on the establishment of the first transboundary hydrogen corridor between Russia and China within the framework of business mission of Russian companies. The document has been signed further to meetings with Chinese partners dedicated to cooperation in the area of hydrogen technology.
The project involves localization of hydrogen production and establishment of a fueling infrastructure network along motorways. This will enable hydrogen-powered freight traffic between the two countries.
“The Russia-China hydrogen transport corridor project aims to create a high-tech hydrogen logistics sector in the Russian Far East. The project encompasses production of zero-emission hydrogen-powered trucks featuring long fuel range, fast fueling and outstanding cold-weather startability, which ideally suits severe climates and long-haul transboundary transportation requirements in the Far East. Transfer of a part of cargo traffic to such vehicles will reduce transport costs and vehicle emissions very much. We are glad to participate in the Russian part of the project, involving leading engineering competencies and joining together government, business and financial efforts,” said Rostec’s representatives.
Implementation of the project also includes hydrogen production from natural gas to facilitate the development of blue hydrogen technologies. The project meets Russia’s hydrogen and transport strategies and will jump-start a clean-energy transport system in the Far Eastern region.
As of 2026, more than five hydrogen transport corridors, including one international transcontinental logistic hub, have been launched in the PRC. These projects cater for 1000+ hydrogen-powered heavy trucks, the infrastructure is being extensively scaled up. In 2026, a session of the National People's Congress of the PRC included the development of hydrogen industrial clusters and corridors in the main focus areas of the national power development strategy for 2030.
