Central Research Institute Burevestnik as part Uralvagonzavod Group has shipped a batch of 82mm 2B24 mortars within the state defence order.

The main purpose of 82mm 2B24 mortars is to engage, with high-angle fire, military personnel, firepower and unarmored vehicles both in the open and in covers, including reverse slope positions. The weapon is also designed for blinding and smoke screening of enemy observation posts and weapons as well as for terrain illumination.

“The 2B24 mortar design has a range of advantages compared with worldwide equivalents. Thus, bottom half of the tube is helically-finned on the outside and serves as a radiator to improve the tube temperature conditions and ensure the required rate of fire with high-power bombs. The base plate design enables all-round fire from any types of ground,” said Igor Maslennikov, Acting Director of Operations, CRI Burevestnik.

The advanced materials used in the mortar design made it possible to reduce the weight of the weapon, increase its reliability, ease of operation and operational safety. Low weight and quick disassembly capability ensure high maneuverability of 2B24 and efficient combat operations. Mortar transportability by crew enables to use it for combat missions in hard-to-reach areas.
