Rostec and Pirelli launched new line at VTP

Rostec and Pirelli set up new production line at Voronezh Tyre Plant (VTP). The launch was conducted in the presence of Italian delegation headed by Marco Tronchetti Provera, chairman and CEO of Pirelli & C. S.p.a. The ceremony was also attended by Denis Manturov, Russian Minister of Trade and Industry, Aleksey Gordeev, Voronezh region governor, and Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec.

The line to produce premium tyres was launched in testing mode. Pirelli rubber production is scheduled to March, 2013.

Mr Manturov believes that the project successfully implemented in Voronezh by Pirelli and Rostec,  indicates Russian provinces having great economic potential which should be used for foreign investors attraction.

It is Rostec which attracted Italian partner that managed to bring the tyre plant through the crisis. Only a year ago, before Pirelli and Rostec purchased the facilities of VTP, the enterprise was in dire straights. Now there emerged an opportunity of increasing production volumes and creating additional employment.

According to Sergey Chemezov, the Head of Rostec, this project was quite significant for the company. Foreign colleagues’ experience and technology made Rostec be sure that Voronezh Tyre Plant could be quickly re-equipped and make world-class tyres. The corporation managed to attract foreign partner and practically revive Voronezh enterprise by high-standard retooling. This will help saving current employment and also creating additional jobs

The financing in 2012 was € 56 million. Total amount of investments is planned to amount to €100 million by 2015.

The arrangements for the Voronezh-2 project began in 2006 but were ceased in 2 years due to the crisis and restored in 2012, when the plant was transferred under the management of Rostec and Pirelli JV.

Today the new line at the VTP is tooled up with new equipment required for Pirelli tyres production. Voronezh-2 shop is a facility meant for full production cycle. It has the departments of rubber mixing, procuring and assembling, dying and curing grounds, visual and technical control points and test centre. Intellectual production management system allows to monitor equipment condition and status on-line. This makes the work efficient, enhances making accurate forecasts and instant reacting at defects and failures. Voronezh-2 fully conforms to Pirelli requirements.

Taking the new line launch, the JV will produce over 2 million high-quality premium tyres including the winter ones by the end of the year and 4 million in 2014. The two JV plants are expected to produce 10.5 million tyres per year in 2015, when most quality and production enhancing activities are to be completed. Pirelli Tyre Russia sales are forecasted to increase to €500 million.

"Russia is a key strategic market for Pirelli. Voronezh Tyre Plant is a splendid example of a symbiotic collaboration between the Russian authorities, industry, and the experience and technology of an international company. We intend not only to produce world-class premium tyres that meet the needs of the Russian consumers, but also to create a large and efficient logistics center at the Voronezh tyre plant which will deliver to domestic and export customers," said the Chairman and CEO of Pirelli & C. S.p.A., Marco Tronchetti Provera.

Over a half of the plant's production is to be delivered to Russia. Part of the tyres is to be exported, inter alia, to Scandinavia, where Pirelli has recently bought a chain of auto-component stores, and Canada.
