The Tu-214 with a state-of-the-art avionics system and components, including advanced safety systems, has received an approval certificate for a major modification of the type design.

“The colleagues have actually designed a new advanced avionics system. Our aircraft designers have also created Russia’s first unique collision avoidance and early ground proximity warning systems. They are produced by one and only manufacturer for the international aircraft industry and we have managed to overcome its global monopoly. The Tu-214 in a new conceptual design has become the next step towards technological sovereignty in civil aviation and we keep on going,” emphasized Anton Alikhanov, the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

“Approval of the import-substituted Tu‑214 opens the way to commercial production of aircraft to be supplied to Russian airlines. PJSC UAC plans to increase the output of the Tu‑214 up to 20 aircraft per year by the end of 2027,” said Andrey Nikitin, the Minister of Transport.

After modification within the import substitution project, the Tu-214 flying laboratory made its maiden flight in November 2024. Developmental flights were further made and in February 2025 the aircraft started an additional certification testing program that has been successfully completed.

“Russian industry is implementing a strategically important program for creating fully domestically produced aircraft in the shortest possible time by global standards. This is a critical competence for our country with its vast territories. And this is the problem that hasn’t been solved by any country in the contemporary history other than by Russia. Production of comfortable, reliable, fully domestically built aircraft will reinforce technological sovereignty of Russia and increase transport accessibility of regions,” said Rostec’s representatives.

The Tu-214 is a medium-range narrow-body jet that seats up to 210 passengers. The aircraft is furnished with the domestically built PS-90A engines designed and manufactured by Rostec’s United Engine Corporation.
