The second import-substituted prototype of Russia’s MC-21 medium-range jet designed by Yakovlev has proceeded to flights under the certification test program. The first flight was made from the airfield in Zhukovsky, stability and control of the aircraft with domestically made control system actuators was tested.
“Inclusion of the second aircraft into the certification flights will intensify the certification program, which is being undergone in Zhukovsky by another MC-21 prototype partially furnished with new Russian systems and equipment. Our primary task is to complete the full scope of testing under the import substitution program and to get the appropriate major modification approval for further aircraft supplies to airlines,” said Anatoly Gaidansky, First Deputy Managing Director, Director of the Engineering Center of Yakovlev.
This aircraft made a nonstop flight from Irkutsk to Zhukovsky on 13 November.
Foreign components and systems were replaced with Russian products. They included cockpit controls, control actuators, high-lift device movement system and stabilizer adjustment mechanism, avionics system, integrated air conditioning system, integrated flight data acquisition, monitoring, processing and recording system, wheel braking system, primary and auxiliary propulsion systems, fuel system, wheels, tires, etc.
