As part of the meeting of the Presidium of the Government Commission on Digital Development, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, a roadmap for the development of fifth generation mobile communication networks was approved.

Key parties responsible for the roadmap will be Rostec – in creating Russian 5G communication equipment, and Rostelecom - in building 5G communication networks and developing services based on them.

From the federal project "Digital Technologies", 21.463 billion rubles will be aimed at the production of Russian communication equipment for 5G / IMT-2020 communication networks and ensuring its serial production. The funds will be provided to Rostec as a targeted subsidy for 2021-2024. Funding in the amount of 7.393 billion rubles has been allocated for the conversion of the radio frequency spectrum for 5G communication networks within the framework of the federal project "Information Infrastructure".

“Creating 5G equipment is a globally complex undertaking, so we will involve not only our specialized holding companies, but also other market players who are able to offer affordable and innovative solutions by formulating overarching technical specifications and coordinating overall progress. The implementation of the roadmap for the development of 5G communication technologies in Russia will not only create reliable, fast-working new generation communication, but also become a catalyst for the digital transformation of entire sectors of the economy”, said Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation.

The roadmap for 5G development was developed by Rostec and Rostelecom as part of an agreement signed by the companies with the Government of the Russian Federation in July 2019.
