Rostec Tests ‘Smart’ Transport Parachute

The Technodinamika holding company has completed factory testing of a ‘smart’ transport parachute system. It is equipped with an integrated automated control complex that enables airdropping of loads weighing up to 250 kg in a fully automatic mode as well as their landing with increased accuracy.

The transport system is equipped with a landing platform, a parachute with a controlled canopy based on wing loading, and special equipment for automatic flight and guidance. Depending on the warfare setting, the cargo can be airdropped in the guidance mode according to GLONASS or GPS coordinates using a digital communication channel with ground support equipment or in “follower” mode. In this case, the load follows the leading parachute jumper.

The personnel of Rostec aviation department have shown that this ‘smart’ transport parachute system is highly accurate. Tests have confirmed that when the load is airdropped from a height of 4 thousand meters, the landing error does not exceed 100 meters. This allows to shorten the time spent for deployment of goods and planning of their delivery at a qualitatively new level. The parachute features allow to land various weapons, equipment, and ammunition. This equipment can substantially boost the potential of airborne forces as well as special operations.
