Rostec’s New Solution will Ensure Continuous Weather Data Access on the Northern Sea Route

Ruselectronics holding has developed a multifunctional weather and ice monitoring system. The system will acquire all detailed weather data for any requested area and provide the data to ships in Arctic when communication with land is not available. All necessary tests are to be carried out by the end of 2024.

The hardware and software system developed by the Television Scientific Research Institute (as part of Ruselectronics holding) for space-based weather information receipt, processing and retransmission is available in terrestrial and marine versions. It is designed for operation in extreme Arctic conditions at ambient temperatures up to -60 °C and wind speed up to 50 m/s. The system receives and processes the information on the type and amount of clouds, precipitation rate and surface temperature. The acquired data is displayed on the workstation screen.

The solution is easily integrated in the existing user’s network infrastructure and also supports connection of satellite communication modules to provide broadband Internet access via Russian communications providers’ spacecraft.

The equipment provides aggregated data receipt from Earth remote-sensing satellites by a single antenna in two frequency bands: SHF and UHF. This avoids the need to build separate stations and reduces the additional equipment maintenance cost.
