Rostec has Demonstrated an Anti-Stealth Urban Mini Radar at the Army-2023

Ruselectronics holding has demonstrated a novel mobile radar at the Army-2023 forum. It can “see” small items, including hovering small drones, surface and radar-transparent targets. The weight up to 25kg enables the station to be used on any carrier and as part of dismounted control groups.

The portable radar has been designed by Rybinsk Instrument Making Plant (RZP) of Ruselectronics holding using domestic hardware components. Principle of operation is based on the Doppler effect and processing of signals from moving objects or their rotating parts. The station can detect even hovering stealthy drones due to propeller rotation. In addition, the device can be used to find ground objects – the radar detects a vehicle at a distance more than 10km and a boat or motorboat at a distance of about 6km.

The station can work effectively even when multiple targets are present in the swath, for example when the drone is near a flock of birds.

“The tests have shown that the portable radar can be used in restrained urban conditions, for harbor defense and by patrol groups, and can detect a miniature drone at a distance up to 500m. Moreover, the station can also “see” radar-transparent targets, for example, balloons, to ensure additional security of protected objects. We are currently working on the introduction of automatic operation mode and integration of an anti-drone module,” said Andrey Komogortsev, General Director of RZP.
