Rostec Demonstrates Unique 5-axis Milling Machine by Creating 100 Kg Model of Aurus

Rostec State Corporation has published a video of making a model of the Aurus car on the only five-axis numerically controlled milling machine in Russia. The portal milling machine RFP-6S manufactured by STAN was presented for the first time at the Metalloobrabotka-2021 metalworking exhibition.

The new machine provides precise processing of plastics, aluminum alloys, and composite materials. Movement along five axes allows the it to make parts with complex shapes in one session.

“To demonstrate the capabilities of our 5-axis machine, we picked the complex model of an Aurus in a 1:16 scale. Rostec enterprises also participated in the creation of this automobile. Specialists from STAN have developed a multi-staged algorithm for processing a plastic bar to final product. The milling process continued on around the clock for one week. The total weight of the final sample was 100 kg. This way we have proven that the use of such equipment allows to create complex parts just with ‘one touch.’ The method reduces the processing time by an average of 40% and significantly reduces manufacturing expenses,” said the press service of Rostec.

A distinctive feature of the RFP-6S machine is a vacuum table of our own design. STAN was the first Russian manufacturer to set up the production of large vacuum tables. This has allowed us to remove the dependence of the domestic industry on foreign suppliers and significantly reduce the cost of manufactured machines and their delivery times. The design reduces the clamping time of workpieces by 70%, and the processing time for thin materials by up to 80%.
