Rostec State Corporation is expanding exports of high-tech medical equipment to African countries. Ghana has purchased neonatal phototherapy irradiators, a device for treating jaundice in newborns without the use of drugs.

The cost of OFN-03 neonatal irradiators is lower than that of foreign counterparts. Moreover, their service life is longer than that of competitors at more than 50,000 hours. The development and production of this equipment is carried out by Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant (UOMZ), an enterprise of the Shvabe subsidiary holding of Rostec.

Operation of the device is based on exposure to a light flux from super-bright LEDs in the spectral therapeutic range of 430-530 nm. Thus, the infant is not exposed to heat and the phototherapy session is twice shorter.

“As part of a contract with Ghana, we supplied the country's medical institutions with neonatal equipment that helps keep children alive and healthy. Our high-tech medical equipment is already in operation in other African countries including Tunisia and Egypt. Negotiations are underway with new potential customers in the region”, said Oleg Yevtushenko, executive director of Rostec State Corporation.

Shvabe neonatal irradiators are also supplied to medical centers in Ireland, Indonesia, Malaysia, Suriname, Grenada and other countries. Previously, OFN-03 became the first medical equipment to receive a registration certificate from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This step made it possible to simplify the procedure for the supply of medical equipment to Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
