The United Engine Corporation of Rostec has developed a 400 kW turbogenerator based on the VK-650V engine for light helicopters. The new product has no analogues in Russia in terms of power-to-weight ratio. In the future, the turbogenerator is planned to be used in hybrid aircraft, including those intended for operation in the northern regions.
UEC first presented the development at the Arctic — Regions forum. The turbogenerator was created at the UEC-Klimov enterprise. It has a power of 400 kW and a weight of 200 kg.
For the new product, the VK-650V engine was modified. Thanks to design solutions, the generator received high specific power indicators. Electricity is generated by a high-speed rotor rotating at a frequency of tens of thousands of revolutions per minute. The conversion of alternating current to direct current with the required voltage level is provided by the power electronics unit.
The turbogenerator allows you to create a hybrid power plant. Among the advantages of the turbogenerator are its low weight and high resource indicators. It is planned that the service life of the gas turbine drive will be at least 4.5 thousand hours for the main parts of the hot section and 9 thousand hours for the main parts of the cold section, the service life of the generator will be at least 10 thousand hours.
Reliable operation of the unit is ensured by a liquid cooling system for the generator and power electronics unit.
