NtechLab, a technology partner of Rostec State Corporation, provides an AI-based facial recognition system for standard on-board computers of the Russian Atom electric cars. This will be Russia’s first AI-based solution of this kind for cars. The solution will provide additional safety and enable a car to adapt to a particular family member who is currently driving.

To allow “recognition”, the driver shall be at the wheel. Authentication may be also performed through a mobile application. Verification is possible even in low light conditions, with glasses and headgear. AI can distinguish a living person from a silicon mask, photograph and tablet screen image.

The service is currently being developed for “family” electric cars where more than one driver is expected, for example, spouses. In future, however, the system might be also supplied as part of electric cars for car sharing and taxis, where accurate facial recognition of drivers is also required.

“The specifics of the solution are governed by certain computational limits of a car’s standard on-board computer. Meanwhile, the facial recognition function shall provide the highest accuracy and quick response. Our algorithms in this area demonstrate high performance. Due to this, we are able to take part in this project,” said Aleksey Palamarchuk, General Director of NtechLab.
