Press release
Russian Helicopters Holding Company, part of OboronProm, will present new helicopter models for the Asian market – Kamov Ka-226T, Mil Mi-171A2 and Mil Mi-28NE – at Aero India – 2013 international aerospace trade show (held on February 6-10). Another holding company, the United Engine Making Corporation (UEMC), will also disply its products.
Russian Helicopters will display not only models already known to Asia Pacific customers, but also their new designs, never before presented in the region: the light multi-role Kamov Ka-226T, the modified civilian medium helicopter Mil Mi-171A2 and the attack Mil Mi-28NE.
Russia previously already offered the Kamov Ka-226T to the Indian Air Force under the announced tender for 197 helicopters. A different model, the civilian Mil Mi-171A2, is seen as the best variant in the popular Mil Mi-8/17 family. The Indian helicopter fleet currently includes about 200 aircraft of this type, and Indian demand for this machine remains strong. For example, in December 2012, Rostec-controlled Russian Helicopters signed an additional contract to deliver an extra shipment of Mil Mi-17B-5s to the Indian Air Force.
The Russian holding company will present the Mil Mi-28NE attack helicopter jointly with Rosoboronexport. The model is intended to search and destroy tanks and other armor against heavy AA opposition, as well as low-speed aerial targets and personnel. The Mil Mi-28NE’s unique specifications enable it to achieve combat objectives during both day and nighttime in any weather.
OboronProm’s other holding company, UEMC, will present at Aero India 2013, among its civilian products, the RD-33MK engine for the MiG-29 family of jet fighters; NK-361 gas turbine engine; VK-2500 helicopter engine; PD-14 advanced engine intended for the Russian MC-21 aircraft; and the AL-55I engine created to the Indian Air Force order for the HJT-36 trainer aircraft.
OEMC will offer buyers interested in military aircraft components engine 117S designed for the Sukhoi Su-35S fighter. It is a turbofan engine with thrust vectoring and 14,500 kilograms of thrust, or 16% more than the thrust of the basic AL- 31F engine model. State-of-the-art technologies and materials went into creating the 117S engine. The redesigned low-pressure compressor in this engine offers high efficiency, whereas the turbine with its improved blade cooling system has demonstrated increased reliability. A comprehensive digital controller integrated in the fighter’s control systems regulates the operation of the 117S.
