On the eve of Gunsmith Day, celebrated September 19th, ‘Concern Izhmash’, part of ‘Rostec’ corporation, struck interim balance of its activity in 2012

During first 8 months of the year more small arms have been produced, than over the whole year of 2011. The growth has already been 11%, and the year’s total is being forecast to show outstanding 56%.

Larger volumes of production are being exported to the USA. The total over 8 months exceeded the results of 2011 by 25%, which provided for additional revenues of $2,7 mln.

The instruments production volumes will remain at current levels – RUR140 mln in monetary terms.

The company has been extraordinarily successful in new weapons creation. Over the year of 2012 over half a dozen of new models were developed: ‘Saiga-12’ for practical shooting, ‘Saiga-22’ and ‘Saiga-9’, airsoft version of AK74M, air and sport rifles for biathlon; and the designing of new AK-12, which is to become a new platform for a wide range of civil and military weapons, has entered the final phase.

The enterprise has made a huge leap in technology as well as quality of its products. It came as a result of the formation of new single structure of ‘Izhmash’ and completion of staff recruitment. Concern provides 4200 jobs, and average wage over the enterprise equals RUR15 402.

‘Concern Izhmash’ JSC is the leading Russian manufacturer of combat automatic weapons, sniper rifles and guided projectiles. It also manufactures the widest range of civil products, such as fowling pieces, sporting rifles, engineering tools and instruments. The enterprise was established in 1807. ‘Izhmash’ exports its production to 27 countries of the world, including the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Norway, Italy, Canada, Kazakhstan and Thailand.

‘Rostec’ was established in November 2007 to support Russian industry in developing, producing and exporting high-tech industrial products. The corporation includes 22 directly managed companies and 17 holdings, of which 12 are in the defence sector and five in civil industry. In total ‘Rostec’ comprises about 600 companies. The corporation has its headquarters in Moscow, and has a presence in 60 of Russia’s regions. It exports its products to 70 countries.
