Rostec to take part in SITDEF-2013

The corporation will exhibit more than 300 military products in Peru

Moscow, 14 May 2013
Press Release

At the IV International Defense Technology Exhibition (SITDEF-2013),  Rosoboronexport, part of State Corporation Rostec, will exhibit more than 300 advanced Russian military products for the army, navy and air force.

SITDEF-2013 will take place in Peru’s capital city, Lima, from 15 to 19 May. Rostec is the organizer of the Russian exposition.

Among the technology on display is the T-90S tank, the Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery system, the Mi-171Sh combat transport helicopter, the Su-30MK2 multirole fighter aircraft and the Smerch (Tornado) – the world’s most powerful multiple launch rocket system.

The Russian delegation will hold meetings with Peru’s Minister of Defence, the commanders of the country’s air and ground forces, as well as with military delegations from Colombia, Brazil and other countries in the region. The Russian delegation to the exhibition is being led by Konstantin Biryulin, deputy director of Russia’s Federal Service for Military and Technical Co-Operation (FSMTC). The head of Rostec’s corporate delegation is Sergey Goreslavsky, director of the corporation’s International Business and Marketing Department.

“Latin America is a promising market for Russian military products,” noted Goreslavsky. “500 Russian-manufactured transport and combat helicopters are already in use in the region. Aside from deliveries of end products, Rostec offers favourable arrangements for technological partnerships, including the transfer of stand-alone technological processes and the organization of joint assembly operations. Rostec has a presence in seven Latin American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.”

As the centrepiece of the exposition, Rosoboronexport will display a full-scale model of its main next-generation T-90S battle tank which incorporates the original design and the best layout and design solutions of the T-72 and T-80 tanks. It is assumed that this combat vehicle will be of particular interest to Peru’s Ministry of Defence, which intends to replace its outdated Soviet-made T-55 tanks with newer technology. The T-90S is in great demand among foreign partners; more than 1,000 units have been exported. The largest importer is India, and sales are also made to Algeria, Uganda and other countries.

The Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery system manufactured by Rostec’s High-Precision Weapons will be among the items on show. The Pantsir-S1 is intended for the short-range protection of civilian and military installations from all present and future aerial assault weapons. A feature of the system is the combination of a multi-channel engagement system and tracking of targets with rocket-propelled gun armaments.

At SITDEF, it will be possible to view the Kornet-EM anti-tank missile system, which has no analogues in the world when it comes to range and armour penetration.

Among the new weapons on display will be the latest 80mm calibre unguided missile and 9M542 extended range ammunition used in the Smerch multiple rocket launchers  produced by Rostec’s Splav . In less than 40 seconds, the Smerch is able to discharge a full volley and destroy a target at a distance of 120km in an area of about 65 hectares. Contracts for this system have already been signed with 10 countries, including India, Venezuela and Kuwait.

The Russian exposition will feature the latest helicopter models, including the Mi-171Sh, produced by the Russian Helicopters holding company.

The Russian Electronics holding company, part of Rostec, will present the “Safe City” project – a comprehensive system for ensuring the security of sites of particular importance: energy companies, government agencies, transport infrastructures, and national borders. The integrated automation system allows emergency situations to be quickly monitored, analysed and forecast, and their consequences to be successfully eliminated.

Novosibirsk Instrument-Making Plant, a subsidiary of the Shvabe holding company, will present several recent developments at the exhibit: PNN14M night vision equipment that has low sensitivity to headlights and spotlights, an LMD-2VK laser rangefinder with a ballistic computer, and a number of other innovations.

Rostec will also showcase the KAMAZ army vehicle and the LADA-4x4. Both vehicles have been maximally adapted for use in Peru’s harsh climatic conditions, as well as in the mountainous terrain of South America.
