‘Rostec’, ‘Izhmash’ and ‘Saiga-12’ to dominate international contests

On 26/27 of May the city of Debrecen, Hungary hosted the international practical shooting contest – 3rd Central European Shotgun Open

‘Rostec’ team comprising Andrey Kirisenko (Moscow), Vsevolod Ilyin (Moscow) and Alexander Ilyin (Tula) captured an honorary 2nd prize, beaten only by the Czech national team – repeated and current world champions in this event. Bronze medals went to the Germany national team.

‘Rostec’ team members consider this contest as a milestone: for the first time they were performing with the new ‘Saiga-12’ shotguns, developed by ‘Izhmash’ engineers specially for practical shooting. According to one of the winners Andrey Kirisenko, the shotguns behaved perfectly and didn’t let the shooters down a single time during several thousand shots. Vsevolod Ilyin mentioned that the key to victory were reliable weapons and large shooting experience of the shooters of the team.

It is worth mentioning that the Czech team uses ‘Izhmash Saiga-12’ shotguns as well – modified according to their needs. The German team performs with the ‘Molot Vepr’ shotgun – technological counterpart of ‘Saiga’.

“It was especially pleasing to represent ‘Rostec’ being equipped with unique, up-to-date and absolutely reliable Russian weapons of great quality, produced by ‘Concern Izhmash’. Unlike Czechs, who had to tune their shotguns themselves, we were lucky to get hold of already finished weapons, corresponding to all the demands of practical shooters. I’m absolutely certain that the new ‘Saigas-12’ we had been training and performing with have huge perspectives all over the world”, - shared his impressions Mr. Kirisenko.

This championship became some kind of rehearsal before the World Shotgun Championship, first in the history of practical shooting, that is about to take place in Debrecen, Hungary September 2012. Russian shooters aim at gold medals and they are certain that ‘Rostec’ team has highest chances, in spite of strong competition from the US, Czech, Brazilian and other shooters.

The new modification of ‘Saiga-12’ shotgun for IPSC Russia was developed by ‘Izhmash’ Design and Manufacturing Centre in April 2012. Standard issue of the shotgun was heavily modified, which provided for increased accuracy, smoothness and speed of shooting, more convenient reloading and other ergonomic features of great importance to the shooters. The ‘Rostec’ team has already won Russian competition in Yaroslavl in May 2012. IPSC Russia and ‘Izhmash’ have plans to jointly develop short rifle for practical shooting. This is planned for late 2012 – early 2013.
