RT-Invest and Rosnano Formed the First Environment Fund

The organisation will build waste-to-energy thermal conversion plants

RT-Invest and Rosnano have finalised the formation of the First Environment Fund to become one of the first investors for the Energy From Waste project. This project implies construction of five waste-to-energy thermal conversion plants in Russia.

"We have studied the international waste management practices and made a conclusion that the waste-to-energy thermal conversion technology was an integral part of the integrated waste management system that must be implemented in our country. This globally used technology meets all environmental standards," noted the RT-Invest JSC General Director Andrey Shipelov.

This project implies construction of four plants for thermal conversion of solid municipal waste to energy in the Moscow Region and one plant in Kazan.

Shareholders of the Energy From Waste project also include a Japanese-Swiss company Hitachi Zosen Inova which has built more than 500 similar plants across the world over 80 years of its existence. One of the key conditions for this project implementation is at least 55% nationalisation of plants' equipment manufacturing. As the press release of RT-Invest points out, this is a perfect combination of the best global technologies (Hitachi Zosen Inova), innovations (Rosnano) and the Russian manufacturing facilities (Rostec).
