Rostec’s United Engine Corporation has started the assembly of the first commercial PD-8 engines for regional Superjets. About 100 pieces of industrial equipment have been put into operation to upgrade and speed up the manufacturing process. The first power units will be delivered to the customer in the coming months.
The PD-8 aircraft engine was designed by UEC-Saturn. In June 2026, the new power unit received the type certificate to confirm its compliance with airworthiness requirements. Simultaneously with the certification testing, the factory underwent a manufacturing preparation and effective cooperation ties were also built to ensure supply of components.
“Our engine manufacturers have done what seemed impossible until recently: they created a new domestic aircraft engine, the PD-8, for the import-substituted Superjet in just six years, i.e. twice as fast as anywhere in the world. Seventeen totally new technologies were implemented during the development of the new power unit. The task that we currently are faced with is to achieve steady commercial engine production” said Rostec’s representatives.
The PD-8 turbofan engine uses advanced technologies and curring-edge domestic materials. The domestically built unit is designed for the Superjet-100 regional jets and Be-200 amphibians made by United Aircraft Corporation.
