Corundum ceramic parts feature high strength and durability

Obninsk Research and Production Enterprise Technologiya named after A.G. Romashin has replaced foreign imports of high-strength corundum ceramics. Corundum ceramic plates protect industrial equipment against physical damage and increase equipment durability. 

The solution includes a process of fabricating corundum ceramics from domestic raw materials and producing corundum ceramic plates. The company won the grand prize in the Import Substitution category of the Prioritet-2024 National Industrial Technology Awards. 

“The innovative solution will help provide industry with ceramic consumables that are necessary for steel making and other high technology applications. Unique design of the solution is confirmed by three patents. The product improves considerably manufacturing efficiency and has high competitive advantages,” said Andrey Silkin, General Director of ORPE Technologiya. 

Corundum ceramic parts feature high strength and durability. This makes them suitable for use in machines exposed to high mechanical loads. For example, in molten metal atomization equipment or crushing units. 

The company has already implemented the solution and validated its cost efficiency. Thus, the maintenance-free service life of a glass mill furnished with the corundum plates has tripled. Manufacturing cycle has been also reduced by more than 35%, and the number of grinding operations in the turnaround cycle has increased from 50 to 60.
