A machine tool builder in Kolomna has designed a unique giant machine for aircraft manufacturers. The equipment is intended for cold pressing of large-size aluminum alloy parts required for civil aircraft manufacturing. This is the first machine of such class made in Russia.
New P5220 machine is classified as pressing equipment and is comparable in size with heavy machinery such as bulldozer or excavator. The weight of the equipment is about 650 tons, height above the floor level is 4.7 meters and more than 8 meters together with the foundation, and power is equal to 800 kW.
A key feature of the new press is a specific strain pressure of 40 MPa, which is equivalent to almost 400 atmospheric pressures. Precisely such pressure is used, for example, to help a deep submergence submarine break the surface from the sea bottom.
Operating principle of P5220 machine is similar to that of an automatic sheet-stamping die press. It is driven by two steel hydraulic cylinders to form a desired part from a workpiece. The equipment is designed to manufacture components with dimensions up to 4200mm x 1350mm and a height of 270mm maximum. While it takes not more than two minutes to make one part.
The pressing process is computer-aided – the machine is computer controlled. This ensures maximum accuracy of operations, simplified production process and completely safe machine operation.
