Uralvagonzavod and Federal Cargo Company have Presented Innovative Gondola Cars

Concern Uralvagonzavod and Federal Cargo Company have presented innovative eight-axle gondola car prototypes developed by Urals Rail Car Design Bureau of Concern Uralvagonzavod on the instruction of Russian Railways.

The new eight-axle gondola car is designed to carry bulk non-aggressive cargo on 1520 mm gauge main railway lines with availability within the ambient temperature range from -60°С to +50°С. The specified life of the new gondola car is 32 years. The gondola car meets the Technical Regulation of the Customs Union, ensures transportation safety in accordance with the regulations concerning the carriage of goods, and maintenance and repair using the existing maintenance capacities.

“Certainly, the main efforts of Concern Uralvagonzavod are now focused on the fulfillment of state defence procurement orders. At the same time, the production diversification tasks set by the President are still in force. Therefore the Concern continues working on the development and launch of new high-tech commercial products. Using the trailer freight car design experience, the eight-axle gondola car offers new opportunities for the development of a range of similar freight cars capable of achieving strategic objectives of increasing the carrying capacity of the Russian Railways infrastructure at key destinations,” pointed out Andrey Abakumov, Deputy General Director of Civilian Products of Concern Uralvagonzavod.
