Rostec has Fielded a New Batch of the Msta-S and Akatsia Self-Propelled Guns

Rostec State Corporation has delivered a new batch of the 2S19М1 Msta-S and 2S3М Akatsia self-propelled guns to the Russian Armed Forces. The vehicles have undergone joint modernization under the state defence procurement program.

The upgraded Msta-S is equipped with a digital automated guidance and fire control system. The equipment is used to include the gun into a reconnaissance strike complex. Thus, the self-propelled gun can promptly deliver a strike after target detection using UAV or other intelligence capabilities. This considerably improves the artillery system performance.

The 2S3M Akatsia is an upgraded tower-type howitzer mounted on a high speed lightly armored crawler chassis. The gun features high mobility and flotation ability. This is particularly important during spring thaws and in soft soil areas where heavy or wheeled vehicles may get stuck in mud and become easy prey for the enemy firepower.

“Today, we have delivered a batch of the upgraded 2S19M1 Msta-S self-propelled guns to the Russian Army. The gun has a high rate of fire up to 8 rounds per minute. In addition, the vehicle is equipped with state-of-the-art control systems designed to use high precision guided munition. For example, the Krasnopol rounds that have been already proven in the SMO zone. The 2S3M Akatsia self-propelled howitzers have also entered service. The vehicles have been upgraded under the state defence procurement program,” said Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial Director of Weapon Systems, Rostec State Corporation.
