This year, Rostec’s Cardioelectronica will supply one thousand Apollo MRI‑conditional two-chamber pacemakers to medical facilities throughout the country. This is Russia’s first device that allows patients to undergo MR examination.
The pacemaker is designed to treat arrhythmia. It continuously controls the heart rhythm and has a memory capability to store the heart’s activity data. Information is sent to an attending physician, who can monitor the patient’s condition and correct treatment. Capability to safely undergo magnetic resonance imaging for cancer, stroke, cardiac pathology and muscle-skeleton disorder diagnosis is the key advantage of the Apollo MRI. This considerably expands the diagnosis and treatment capabilities for patients with implanted pacemakers. According to expert estimates, more than 50% of such patients need MRI testing.
“Production of domestic Apollo MRI conditional pacemakers is a step forward for Russian medicine. The product can replace equivalent foreign devices. There is currently high demand for pacemakers in Russia. According to cardiac surgeons, percentage of MRI conditional pacemakers shall be at least 70%. Therefore, for the next year we plan to fully switch to production of an MRI conditional two-chamber pacemaker version. Finally, production of such devices will increase to 5000 items in 2027,” said Sergey Dmitrochenko, General Director of Cardioelectronica.
