UEC-Saturn, an affiliate of the United Engine Corporation, and Safran Aircraft Engines (France) of the Safran Group have entered into a framework agreement at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum for development of SaM146 engine modification for a re-engined version of Russian Be-200 amphibious aircraft.

The agreement was signed by Alexander Artyukhov, CEO of the United Engine Corporation, and Olivier Andries , CEO of Safran Aircraft Engines. The signing ceremony was attended by Denis Manturov, the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

UEC-Saturn and Safran Aircraft Engines agreed to upgrade SaM146 engine for Be-200 aircraft, including serious improvement of software for the automatic control system and further certification of the re-engined version. A three-year' roadmap has been developed for manufacturing of three pilot engines for tests and certification purposes.

"We are glad that we can make our contribution to this project," noted Olivier Andries. "This clearly demonstrated that we still wish to strengthen our cooperation with the Russian aviation industry that commenced about 20 years ago. Safran Aircraft Engines is the manufacturer of SaM146 core generators, and this engine symbolises the entire value of our cooperation that we will gladly continue by this agreement for Be-200."

Cooperation of UEC-Saturn and Safran Aircraft Engines started in 1996 when the Russian company commenced production of components for CFM56 commercial turbofan engine. In 2004, PowerJet company was established for development and production of SaM146 power unit.
