Rostec has Provided Rescue Teams with the First Upgraded Mi-26T2 Giant Helicopter

Russian Helicopters holding supplied the first upgraded Mi-26T2 heavy helicopter with new avionics and “glass cockpit” to EMERCOM of Russia. Modern equipment and new electronics made it possible to reduce the crew size and to fly at any time of day or night.

Mi-26T2 heavy helicopter is an upgraded version of the Mi-26T. Thanks to the modern avionics, the modernized aircraft crew was reduced from five to three members. The advanced avionics systems installed on board greatly increase the functionality, reduce the crew workload and make flights possible at any time of day and night.

The avionics consist of a modern integrated flight and navigation system, inertial navigation system and GLONASS navigation system. The avionics together with a digital autopilot can not only guide the Mi-26T2 along the route, but also ensure computer-assisted approach with hovering at a pre-defined height.

The “glass cockpit” – an electronic flight instrument display system - also helps to improve flight control. The helicopter also has an early ground proximity warning system. Moreover, almost all systems are redundant to ensure higher safety.

The maximum take-off weight of the Mi-26Т2 is 56 tons with maximum payload of 20 tons. The Mi-26Т2 can climb up to 4600 meters, cruise speed is 255 km/h (maximum 295 km/h). Flight range with normal fuel tanks is 800 km (ferry range is 1905 km).
