UEC-Saturn, United Engine Corporation, has developed a high-efficient method of protection against adverse impacts for industrial and marine gas turbine engine components – thermal barrier coating application technology. The new solution allows the power plant efficiency and life to be increased.

The UEC-Saturn personnel have developed a special electron-beam coating application method to protect heat-resistant alloy components against heat, corrosion and damage. These are the impacts gas turbine engines are continuously exposed to. More efficient protective layer is produced gradually by means of the following processes: at first, the protective materials are evaporated using an electron beam and then condensed onto the surface of a component in vacuum.

“Engine component exposure to corrosive media is an important problem to be solved by engine designers worldwide. The special coating production and application method offered by the UEC personnel provides a protection whose efficiency is twice as high as that of similar coatings used before. This solution made it possible to improve the adhesive properties of coatings and power unit performance, to reduce significantly the impact of high-temperature salt corrosion and oxidation, and, thus, to increase the service life of both industrial and marine engines,” said Rostec’s avia cluster representatives.
