Rostec has Created Unique Super-Reliable Alloys for Future Marine Engines

United Engine Corporation has developed two new corrosion-resistant and heat-resistant alloys for marine gas turbine engine blades. The unique materials will be used to make more powerful and wear-resistant marine power plants.

The new materials have much better corrosion resistance than the best domestic products, withstand temperatures up to 1 000 °C and ensure stability in corrosive marine environment. At this point, the required set of regulatory and technical documentation has been prepared and manufacturing processes have been elaborated to make components from the new materials. 

“Stress-strain, chemical and corrosion testing of the new alloys has proved the declared performance. They will be used in blades and nozzle vanes of turbines running in heavy-duty conditions, including thermal impacts and mechanical loading case. The new materials allow the efficiency and power of marine gas turbine engines to be increased to open the way to creation of higher level advanced marine power plants,” said Aleksey Nesterenko, Deputy General Director of Sales of UEC. 

The alloys have been certified and accepted for use in marine gas turbine systems. They will be used in new marine gas turbine engines and also to increase the power and improve the performance of the existing commercial engines used at offshore and coastal sites.
