Rostec demonstrates special-purpose anti-drone cartridges for guns and shotguns at the Army-2024 International Military and Technical Forum. The ammunition developed by Research Institute of Applied Chemistry is designed to engage various types of mini drones.
Two cartridges designed to engage small drones — IGLA AnDr и IGLA Vector AnDr — are shown at the exhibition. Both ammunitions have a caliber of 12/76 and shall engage various types of low-altitude UAVs due to kinetic energy of the propellant charge. The IGLA AnDr is charged with shot No. 0000-5 or 6.2-8.5mm grape shot. The IGLA Vector AnDr is outfitted with a red light element designed for shot flight visualization in order to adjust shooting direction.
The cartridges differ from regular hunting and sporting cartridges in that they use special high-power gunpowder with heavier hardened shot.
“Mini drones constitute a great threat, but standard countermeasures, for example, anti-aircraft missiles, are not always effective. Therefore Rostec creates alternative systems — miniature missiles, EW systems and special-purpose ammunition, including small arms ammunition. The hardened cartridges with improved performance have supplemented this product range,” emphasized Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial Director of the Conventional Weapons, Ammunition and Special Chemicals Cluster of Rostec State Corporation.
