Rostec and LG Create a "Window-Display" for the Russian Transport

"Shvabe" holding of the Rostec State Corporation and LG Electronics presented at the international industrial exhibition "Innoprom-2019" innovative glass with transparent OLED-matrix. The "window-display" can replace transparencies in trains, train stations and other public institutions.

Interactive transparent displays ‒ an innovative product that can be used to broadcast media content of any format on the surface of windows and doors. If necessary, the window can be switched from the transparency mode to the color display mode. The "windows-monitors" use a matrix of organic LEDs with a transparency of 38% from both sides. The control is carried out remotely from the operator panel and directly – through the touch-sensitive surface. First of all, the technology is planned to be used in railway transport.

The prototype was the result of the joint work of Shvabe holding, its member company "Metromedia" and LG Electronics.

"The new project is the result of technological cooperation with a South Korean company, for which this is the first such experience in Russia. LG provides OLED-matrix image transmission technology, we are responsible for the production of the working surface of the display. For example, cars of railway transport, in particular the metro cars, can be equipped with such glasses. Display control automatics is configured in such a way that when entering a platform the screen will switch by itself  into the transparency mode, leaving only navigation elements. To do this, the controller is integrated with the train traffic control system," says Oleg Yevtushenko, Executive Director of Rostec.

The main production site of the joint project in Russia will be the Lytkarinsky optical glass plant, which is a leading Russian manufacturer of high-tech glass products, in particular fiberglass, large astronomical mirrors, space lenses, etc.

"Technology has great potential. Interactive transparent displays can be used in different areas, but so far the greatest interest has been shown by companies – manufacturers of transport, in particular – railroad transport. In the future, we want to fully cover this segment," says Ivan Ozhgikhin, Deputy General Director of Shvabe.

"LG company strives to present innovative B2B products on the Russian market that will make the space not only functional, but also aesthetically attractive. Offering fundamentally new formats of display solutions, LG expands the capabilities of its partners in the presentation of visual information", ‒ commented the President of LG Electronics in Russia and CIS countries Il Hvan Lee.

The prototype of a transparent display on the OLED-matrix is presented to the visitors of the international industrial exhibition "Innoprom-2019", which took place in Yekaterinburg from 8 to 11 July.
