Metallist has put into Production a Prosthetic Hand with Unique Grip Design

Moscow Manufacturing Group Metallist has launched batch production of a modern proprietary prosthetic hand — Zakhvat active gripper. This is Russia’s first prosthesis with innovative grip geometry. A unique mechanism is used to hold both smallest and large items — from a needle to a hammer.

The Zakhvat active gripper will help replace the human hand function. The latest prosthetic technologies were used in the development process — original design geometry and special inner surface texture of the gripper.

«Such product is available only from one manufacturer in the world — Ottobock, a global leader in prosthetic and orthotic solutions. Our developers have succeeded not only in replicating the mechanism of the German product, but also in creating a more robust solution. The Zakhvat is made of a domestically produced material — corrosion-resistant steel. The volume of upper extremity prosthetics in Russia is currently about 4 000 products per year. And there are no domestic products equivalent to the Zakhvat in Russia,» pointed out Eduard Yanushenko, General Director of MPO Metallist.

«The first stage of the innovative gripper manufacturing used additive technologies — the Zakhvat was made from stainless steel using a 3D printer. We have further upgraded the technology and switched over to investment casting to achieve a product weight of 300 g and to launch the batch production,» emphasized Denis Ilyin, Chief Designed of MPO Metallist.
