A unique electron-beam welder for large-sized parts and assemblies has been put into operation at UEC-Saturn in Rybinsk. The new equipment is designed for manufacturing heavy-duty gas turbine engine housing parts, in particular the GTD-110M.

The new domestic equipment has a set of advantages compared with the existing one. This product makes it possible to reduce the production time of housing parts and achieve high quality weld joints.

“One of Rostec’s solutions for power industry is the GTD-110M heavy-duty gas turbine. This is an advanced Russian solution that will substitute foreign generation equipment. The GTD-110M is produced at scale, the first turbine has been already installed at the new Udarnaya HPP in Krasnodar Krai. The current market demand only in Russia amounts to several dozens of such machines. We are planning to achieve the output of four turbines per year to meet the demand. Production capacities are being increased so far,” said Rostec’s representatives.

The equipment is designed for welding housing parts with a wall thickness up to 100mm and a weight up to 10 tons. The welding process is controlled by one welding operator. A single control panel for both the power unit and electromechanical system allows the operator to move between the view ports for visual monitoring, and three high-definition video cameras ensure visibility of the whole process and inspection of finished welds.
