AI will Find Lost Cats and Dogs in the Moscow region

NtechLab, Rostec’s technology partner, will start an artificial intelligence solution in test mode to search for missing pets using photographs. The pilot project will be conducted in the Moscow region.

NtechLab is known for its facial recognition algorithms. The new solution will use a similar technique. But in this case a pet’s face is recognized. When a pet — a cat or dog — is lost, its owner may download a photo and fill in a short form with pet name, living region and date of loss. When a pet with a high degree of similarity to the photo is found in one of the Moscow region areas, the owner will receive a notice in Telegram bot indicating the position.

“Our technology is introduced in the Moscow region as a social policy element. At the same time, we receive requests from northern regions of Russia to extend the technology capabilities to recognition and immediate notification when wild animals, for example, brown bears, appear in a city. This is a next development stage of this algorithm,” said Aleksey Palamarchuk, General Director of NtechLab.

The system functionality includes not only search for pets, but also creation of a database of lost pets and found pets whose owners have not been identified yet.
