Shvabe to Build Four Cancer Therapy Centres in Russia

A Rostec State Corporation's holding company Shvabe will be the general contractor for the construction of cancer proton therapy centres. The memorandum of agreement has been signed by representatives of Shvabe, the Moscow State University, the Far Eastern Federal University, the National Medical Research Radiological Centre and the Novosibirsk State University as part of the Eastern Economic Forum. In total, it is expected to build four similar institutions in Russia.

The first centre is expected to be built in the Primorsky Krai, on the Russky island, in 2022 at the latest. The works are to be commenced in the middle of the next year. Such institutions for treatment of cancerous diseases using proton therapy methods will also appear in Moscow, Obninsk and Novosibirsk.

The holding company will be the general contractor and management company. Its objectives include investment attraction, construction and equipping the centres. In its turn, the Moscow State University, the Far Eastern Federal University, the National Medical Research Radiological Centre and the Novosibirsk State University, as well as the Hokkaido University will train specialists, borrow and adapt medical technologies.

Proton therapy is a technologically advanced and sparing method for irradiation of carcinomas. Its main advantage is the opportunity to localize the irradiation area without damaging the surrounding healthy tissues around the carcinoma.
