Shvabe's Radiation Detectors Approved for Supply to the Ministry of Defence of Russia

The Ministry of Defence of Russia has approved the supply of gamma and beta radiation detectors to be used as part of a mobile check and distribution point. The devices developed by Shvabe will be used for detection of radioactive contamination of armament, military equipment, personnel and personal equipment.

A set of radiation detectors has been developed by a member of Shvabe, Zagorsk Optical and Mechanical (ZOMZ), in 2016. It includes three devices: gamma radiation detection module for equipment – MDT, gamma and beta radiation detection module for personnel – MDLS, and continuous radiation control module – MRK. The devices are designed for field outdoor operation.

"The new detectors allow the military personnel to control contamination when the divisions and troops leave radioactive contaminated areas during wartime and emergency situations when mitigating consequences of breakdowns at radioactively hazardous facilities", noted the General Director of ZOMZ Andrey Rastorguev.

Apart from the Russian military forces, a potential consumer of such products is the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia. The devices have successfully passed the tests and in June 2017 were approved for supply to the Ministry of Defence of Russia. The first batches could be supplied in 2018.
