Aircraft Engine PD-14 will be Certified in Russia in 2018

 

Development of aircraft engine PD-14 follows the plan according to the information provided by Joint engine manufacturing corporation (ODK). Russian certificate is to be issued in the second quarter of 2018. One of the first flying developmental model of the new jet MC-21 will be equipped with PD-14 engine in 2019.

Alexander Artyukhov, Head of ODK, mentioned that performance of bench testing and flight testing of MC-21 would require manufacture of 11 engines PD-14. At the present time there are 10 ready engines. One more engine will be manufactured in September 2017.

“We suppose that time frames of Russian certificating, according to the plan, during the second quarter 2018 will be provided, giving us possibility for carrying out delivery of engines for the start of MC-21 jet flight and certificate tests by the end of 2018”, - Alexander Artyukhov’s words cited by TASS.

In turn, during the meeting dedicated to development of civilian aviation Head of Irkut corporation Oleg Demchenko stated, that two flight models f MC-21 jet will be equipped with national engine PD-14. Therefore new Russian airliner will be able to flight using two different engine types - American Pratt & Whitney and newest Russian engine PD-14.

Turbojet engine PD-14 is considered to be the first power plant for passenger jets which had been developed in Russia totally for the last several decades. Engine is planned to be fitted into newest Russian medium-range aircraft MC-21.

According to the information provided earlier, Irkut company is planning to assemble 20 jets MC-21 per year by 2018; moreover it is planned to ramp up production to 72 machines per year by 2025.
