The Industrial Design and Innovations Center, AstraRossa Design, views Shvabe – Defense as a main partner for its "Soldier of the Future" project. The Novosibirsk company is a subsidiary of the Shvabe optoelectronics holding.
Vladimir Pirozhkov, Head of the Industrial Design and Innovations Center, AstraRossa Design, visited Shvabe – Defense. AstraRossa Design is implementing a project to create equipment for the Russian army's "Soldier of the Future." Project details are being kept in strict confidence, but the designer was able to reveal some information to us.
"We are inspired by modern computer games, in which the soldier's equipment is literally an extension of his body. The equipment is high-tech, comfortable and beautiful at the same time," said Vladimir Pirozhkov. "The soldier must be equipped with the maximum number of devices that can allow the soldier to see at night as well as during the day, for example. The soldier will be able to scan the environment from behind a corner, through walls and even over the horizon."

Vladimir Pirozhkov considers Shvabe – Defense as one of its main partners for the "Soldier of the Future" project. In the future special forces will be issued uniforms that include new generation equipment produced by Shvabe, such as thermal imagers, night-vision goggles, and night and thermal sights. The company is ready to develop new optical devices specifically for this project.
The "Soldier of the Future" will combine all the latest international technologies whose purpose is to increase the productivity and efficiency of the individual soldier. This concept involves the use of night vision, positioning and navigation systems, improved targeting systems, soldier physiological parameter monitoring systems, and new dynamic security systems.
The modular communications equipment included in the kit allows for transmitting video and voice data. A digital display connected to the GLONASS and GPS systems will show the ground situation in real time and transmit this information to battle command centers. In addition, a special computer will allow for continuous information exchange between soldiers, combat vehicles and networks. This new equipment will reduce the physical load on the soldier and minimize the risks associated with human error.
"Soldier of the Future" is the next phase of the new generation Ratnik battlefield equipment project. Currently, the Russian army is preparing to take delivery of the new equipment, which consists of nearly forty Russian-made components weighing 20 kg. If necessary, the equipment can be temporarily removed for a few seconds. Testing of Ratnik is planned to be completed by the end of the summer of 2014.
Shvabe – Defense is a major Russian manufacturer of portable surveillance devices. It is a part of Shvabe, a subsidiary of the Rostec State Corporation.
