Airbus strengthens partnership with VSMPO-AVISMA

Airbus, one of the largest aircraft manufacturers in the world, may participate in projects by Russian titanium producer VSMPO-AVISMA aimed at manufacturing high value-added products, reports the VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation press centre.

As part of an official visit by Airbus representatives to VSMPO-AVISMA, discussions are underway on the potential for strengthening the companies’ existing partnership.

The delegation includes Olivier Cauquil, senior vice-president for material procurement; Oliver Dreier, vice-president for titanium procurement; as well as heads and managers of purchasing and supply chain quality departments.

VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation is the principal supplier of titanium to both Airbus and its shareholder EADS, satisfying most of their demand. In summer 2008, VSMPO-AVISMA signed an agreement to supply titanium to Airbus and other EADS companies until 2020. This agreement has contributed to further development of relations between the two companies which date back to the early 1990s. The value of the contract could amount to as much as USD 4 billion.

VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation is the world’s largest vertically integrated producer of titanium alloy ingots, prefabrications and forgings. The corporation, including its subsidiary network of distributors and service companies in the USA, Europe and Asia, employs more than 20,000 people globally. Over 70% of the corporation’s annual production is exported.
