KAMAZ for Europe will be manufactured in Lithuania

KAMAZ, which have been manufactured in the Lithuanian city of Rokishkis, in three years may occupy 3 % of the Eastern Europe market of trucks.

Autobagi, an enterprise from Vilnius, is manufacturing the trucks under the arrangement with KAMAZ. All the parts, equipment and bodies - everything, except for the engines, is supplied by Russia. Engines are produced in Great Britain to comply with the ecological requirements of Euro5.

In the following years the factory plans to manufacture 1500 tractors annually.

«We will not be selling the first manufactured cars in Lithuania – instead, we are currently in negotiations with the Polish side concerning such sales. The neighbouring country's market is more susceptible, therefore we count on success», - the Lithuanian news portal Delfi quotes Mr. Gedrius Diktanas, the director of Autobagi.

Diktanas also has reported that the assembly of KAMAZ for the Lithuanian market will begin in 2-3 months.

Lithuania once again wants to strenghten its positions in the market of commercial cars. As of today this is their third attempt after the declaration of independence.

In 1992 the Rokishsky Machine-Building Plant has entered into the agreement with the German manufacturer Robur on production of vehicles. However the project has not been implemented, as it was not possible to collect the amount of money, necessary for investments. Automašinų verslo centras, an enterprise registered in Vilnius, was engaged in the assembly of the Russian minibuses "GAZelle" in Rokishkis; however, the production has been cancelled due to crisis.
