Russia to Complete Arms Shipments to Venezuela by Yearend


Rosoboronexport will complete arms and military equipment shipments to Venezuela by the end of 2013. This was told by the head of the Rosoboronexport delegation at the LAAD-2013 International Exhibition in Brazil, Sergei Ladygin.

According to RIA Novosti, the company is now negotiating to extend military cooperation with Caracas.

The head of the delegation also said that Rosoboronexport would ship fast boats and submarines to this Latin American country. Total value of the contracts to be completed is $2 billion.

Currently, the Venezuelan Armed Forces have fully switched to Russian equipment, except for transport aviation and navy. The previous military contract was estimated at $11 billion.

Earlier it was told that that Russia shipped to the Venezuelan Armed Forces 13 BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles. The vehicles were delivered to Fuerte Paramacay armored vehicle maintenance center. According to the Centre for Analysis of World Arms Trade, in 2009 the Venezuelan Armed Forces ordered from Rosoboronexport 123 BMP-3 armored vehicles in BMP-3M, BMP-3K versions, and BREM-L armored recovery vehicles. The shipments started in 2011.
