Modernized BMP-3 specimen undergoes the final testing in the UAE. The vehicle has 5 modernization points from the 17 proposed by the Russian designers.
Upgraded BMP-3 will have conditioner-power plant, automatic target tracker, ATGM loading unit, smoke exhaust system and electronic prompter.
According to Mr Losev, all the modernization points are already planted to the first vehicle. Now the latest requests from the Emirate party are being expected. As soon as they are received, the rest 134 vehicles will be upgraded. In accordance with the 2011 contract, all the upgrading works are to be completed in a year and 9 months.
Currently the UAE fleet consists of 1 thousand Russian BMP-3s. Approximately 300 of them are employed by the National Guard which made the decision of the 135 BMP-3 upgrading. The UAE ground troops are considering the upgrading of the rest 700 vehicles.
The corresponding proposals on the upgrading are forwarded to the Emirate party by Rosoboronexport.
