UEC Suggests to Upgrade Power Units of Russian Helicopters in China

United Engine Corporation (UEC) demonstrated to Chinese operators of Russian civil helicopters a programme for upgrade of power units of helicopters at Aviation Expo China in Beijing.

Most certified Russian helicopters used in China are equipped with engines of TVZ-117 series. But, as of today, there have been developed and certified much more efficient and advanced engines.

VK-2500 engine has been developed to replace TVZ-117. As distinct from TVZ-117, it has better operational characteristics: enhanced power in emergency mode, maintenance of operating modes in a wider range of ambient air temperatures, longer life, high fuel efficiency. In particular, VK-2500 offers entirely new opportunities for Mi-17-type vehicles and other vehicles of the same class during their operation in high-mountain regions and regions with hot climate.

The "helicopter" line of business is an important component of UEC's cooperation with China in the aviation engine building sphere. Thus, in December 2016 the work for validation of production for overhaul of TVZ-117/VK-2500 helicopter engines has been completed at Jinjiang Machine-Building Plant in Chengdu. A result of many years of cooperation was execution of the certificate of conformance of engine repairs for Mi-17-type civil helicopters to the specifications.
