Born on January the 31st, 1953 in Leningrad (Saint Petersburg at present).

Education

He graduated from the Translation Department of the Philological Faculty of the Leningrad State University, then the Higher Courses of the USSR KGB in Minsk, the Red Banner Institute of the USSR KGB.

Professional activity

Since 1975, an officer of the USSR KGB (the USSR KGB Administration in Leningrad and Leningrad region, the First Main Directorate of the USSR KGB (intelligence)).

Since 1991, an officer of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia (in the foreign intelligence agencies from the first deputy head of the department).

1998 - 1999 - Deputy Director of FSB, Head of the Department for Analysis, Forecast and Strategic Planning of FSB.

1999 - 2001 - Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation (permanent member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation).

2001 - 2007 - Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.

2005 - 2007 - Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation - Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation (since 2006 - Chairman of the Military Industrial Commission under the Government of the Russian Federation).

2007 - 2008 - First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.

2008 - 2011 - Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.

2011 - 2016 - Head of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation.

2016 – till present - Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport.

The 1st class actual state advisor of the Russian Federation.
