Yury Ushakov

Born March, 13 1947 in Moscow

EDUCATION

Graduated from MGIMO in 1970. Mr Ushakov completed profession advance courses in the Diplomatic Academy. He also has a Nordic countries’ foreign policy PhD in defence..

Mr Ushakov has a PhD in historical science as well

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY

1970-1986 – The USSR embassy in Denmark; Nordic countries Department, General Secretariat of MFA.

1986-1992 – Deputy Head of Mission, Minister-Counsellor of the USSR embassy in Denmark.

1992-1996 – Director of Department of European Cooperation of MFA, Russia.

1996-1998 – Russian ambassador to OSCE in Vienna

1998-1999 – Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs on the UN judicial and humanitarian cooperation.

1998-2008 – Russian ambassador in the USA and permanent observer to the Organisation of American States in Washington.

2008-2012 – Deputy Government Chief of staff.

2012-nowadays – Assistant to the President of Russia.

Mr Ushakov is a Honorary figure of the Russian diplomatic service and MFA. He is also an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

HONOURS

Awarded with the Order of Merit for the Fatherland (IV class), Order of Honour, Order of Friendship, and Medal of Merit for the Fatherland (II class).

PERSONAL LIFE

Married, has a child.
